GAZIPUR, June 10, 2025 (BSS) - Home Adviser Lt Gen (rtd) Jahanagir Alam Chowdhury today said that interrogation rooms made of glass will be set up so that people can sees how accused individuals are being treated there during remand.
“The investigation into the cases lodged after July uprising is being delayed as there are huge numbers of accused in those cases,” he said while talking to the journalists after visiting Gachha Thana under Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP).
Replying to a question from a journalist, the adviser said that there are many innocent people along with the criminals in those cases so police are sincerely verifying the real accused.
“You know, the police in the past, used to lodge cases mentioning the names of 10 to 12 persons and huge number of unknown people but recently the cases were filed against 200 to 250 people,” he said.
Some criminals and many innocent people have been inducted in those cases so that the investigation is being delayed, the adviser added.
Jahangir Alam said that the reform of the police is a continuous process and the government has taken up a pilot project in this regard.
Earlier, it was alleged that the police are reluctant to take general diary (GD) and cases but now everyone can file GD or case through online, he said, adding that the general people will not be harassed by police as they can file GD or case from their own houses.
No policemen would be spared if he or she is found involved in ‘case trading or corruption’, the home adviser said, adding that 84 police officers from different ranks have been attached and 30 to 40 were given forced retirement.
The home adviser said that the number one problem of the country is corruption and it has been spread in everywhere of the country. The country would be advanced enough if the corruption is contained, he said, adding that the journalists can play an important role in this regard.
Earlier, the adviser visited the Gachha Thana and police barrack. Among others, GMP Commissioner Dr Nazmul Karim Khan and senior officials of the metropolis were accompanied with the adviser.
